Every year the Club participates in several shows and
exhibitions that give us the
opportunity to show off many of the clubs airplanes, show off our flying
skills, and discuss with the
public the thrill of flying and building model aircraft.

Pork
in the park

Pork in the Park is a nationally recognized BBQ
competition at Winter Place Park in Salisbury. Last year, it was one of the 10
largest competitions in the USA. We had the opportunity to set up a static
exhibit, with room for demonstration flights.
It was a great opportunity to reach out to the
community, and show Salisbury how we like to have fun. It was definitely a
stressed weekend, occurring on the same weekend as the SSC competition, but
many members, their family, and friends pitched in to make it a success.
The volunteers for the event were:
Danny Craddock, Terry Craddock, Mark ?, James
Culp, J.C. Culp, Vince Fredericksen, David Hess, Kenneth Ludka, Jeff McCarter,
Lester Morris, Richard Murray, Jim Waybright, and Bill Young.

2008 CENTRE OF SALISBURY MALL SHOW
For the past seventeen years the MARKS Club has
participated in an exhibition at the Centre of Salisbury Mall. The first
2008 show event
was held on February 15-17th and a second show is scheduled for May
25-27th. This gives
the Club members an opportunity to display many of the airplanes and
helicopters that they build and fly at the Clubs field Southeast of
Salisbury. It gives the public an opportunity to talk with the Club members
and learn about Radio controlled, model airplane building and flying. The club
is always interested in attracting new members and anyone is welcome to join
the club and learn to fly.
At
the show, the Club also sells raffle tickets for a ready-to-fly model trainer.
The drawing for the raffle plane is always a part of the Clubs Annual Air
Show, which this year, will be held at MARKS Field on June 8th. The
winner does not need to be present to win. Winning it is a great opportunity
to get started in radio control flying. The Club uses the funds from the
raffle to maintain the flying field and for ongoing expenses. This Year
the
Club decided to spice up the raffle drawing by purchasing a Hanger 9 F-22
Raptor PTS (personal training system) airplane.
The plane attracts a lot of attention and hopefully be won by someone in the
area that will learn to fly it at our club. There were many airplanes and helicopters on display at
the Boscov's stage in the mall.
The show attracted a large number of people
that visited the display and talked to club members. Club members setup
several flight simulators as part of the display where guests could try
their hand at flying everything from trainers to jet airplanes. As always
flight simulators are a big hit with both young and older visitors and would-be-flyers. As with
every past show, The Club put together and provided small foam gliders
to the younger children that were with their parents at the exhibit.
Horizon Hobby of Champaign, IL made a
generous donation for the MARKS show. They supplied us
with pamphlets on the PTS system, The FS-One flight
simulator, Hanger 9 full line catalogs, and Hanger 9 Logo
foam can coolers.
Tower Hobbies of Champaign, IL donated Tower
Talk sales fliers, which are always popular with people
interested in getting started in RC. We ran out of these
fliers mid day on Saturday. The AMA
supplied full color brochures on Getting Started in RC.
Following are various photos taken during the show. Click on any

A second Mall exhibition is currently scheduled for May
16th-18th at the same location. Additional photos will be added to this page
when that show is completed.

NEW YEAR'S DAY 2008 FUN

THE ANNUAL
2007 AIR SHOW AT MARKS FIELD
On June
10th, event announcers, Club President, Ted Clark, and Club
Secretary,
Art Perry, kicked off the Clubs
eighteenth Annual
Air Show at MARKS Field, Southeast of Fruitland Maryland. The weather was
excellent with partly cloudy sky's and temperatures in the low eighties.
The winds were very moderate and made for excellent flying conditions. The crowd
was estimated in excess of four hundred members and guests. In fact, the crowd
was the largest the show has ever hosted for this event.
Unfortunately,
this year Trouper four (State medivac helicopter) was unable to make the show
because of other area lifesaving commitments. This is the first time in two
years that the chopper did not make it to the show.
The club proceeded with combat events and numerous demonstration flights of
all different kinds and sizes of aircraft and helicopters throughout the
afternoon. There were some spectacular flight demonstrations of large scale
airplanes flown by members, members of a visiting Seaford, DE club. Halfway through
the show the audience was treated to a full scale flyby by a group of old
aircraft headed by Paul Ennis out of Salisbury. The group made several low
level passes over the field.
The drawing for the raffle airplane was held
at the end of the show
and the winner was Mrs. Godderd, a woman who lives in Virginia. The winner of the 50/50 drawing was
Rich Duane. Proceeds
from the raffle drawing and 50/50 drawing provides
the club with much needed operating funds.
All agreed that this was our best air show ever and that it was again a huge success. A special thanks to all who
worked so hard to make it a memorable afternoon.
